In Surat city due to excessive Industrial and commercial activities, the quality of the air is deteriorating rapidly.

Surat city is declared as Non-Attainment city by CPCB with reference to ambient air quality data obtained (2011-2015). Ambient air quality is badly affected due to lack of traffic awareness and partly public service availability. Surat city is the first city of Gujarat state which falls under Non-Attainment city.

It is required to monitor ambient air quality of major pollutants which includes RSPM, CO, HC, SO2 and identify major pollutants. Traffic pollution is one of the major sources of urban pollution. There are several different ways by which the adverse impacts can be minimized so the ambient air becomes fit for breathing without a gas mask.
