Believe me or not, if you are sitting on a chair while reading this in any of the Top 15 cities in India, you are probably consuming 11,000 Liters of Toxic air per day. Yes, you read it correct ! The average adult, when resting, inhales and exhales about 7 or 8 liters of air per minute. That totals about 11,000 liters of air per day. Inhaled air is about 20-percent oxygen. Exhaled air is about 15-percent oxygen. The problem is along with oxygen in air, we also consume toxic fumes coming out of industry, Sox, Nox compounds due to vehicular emission, Dust particles due to poor construction management activities. Effects: Due to increase in exposure, we get nasal infections, irritations, seasonal allergies, lung diseases, and even cancer if emissions are on a higher scale, frequent cough and cold due to poor immunity, etc. Solutions: We need big forests! Reserve Forests area! You cant really contribute if you plant one single tree a year in your school / college / institute. What we really need to do is, to appeal government to reserve area for forests, reserve some area for wetlands, lakes, etc. We don’t need concrete jungle! Government is blatantly giving permission to Builders, for construction of Big towers, wiping out our forests and agriculture area. The day is not far, where our future generations will search for space to carry out agriculture activities, as there will be hardly any food left. We need to work on Soil. We need Flora and Fauna ! We need to protect endangered species , living in dense forests! Some or the other way, they help us in living our lives peacefully, and is contributing in our Ecosystem.I am not against Industrial Revolution 4.0 ! India needs to adopt latest machineries, technologies, work more on Artificial Intelligence, and so on! At the same time, we also have to protect our environment! We need to work on Air Quality, Water Quality, Ground water recharge, and endangered species! This is in true sense, Sustainable Development ! That is, thinking a bit about our future generations as well! Thanks Umang K Shah 1
