SVNIT Launches Environment Research Centre to Study Diamond City’s Environmental Challenges
Surat: In a significant step towards environmental sustainability, Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) has launched the Clean Environment Research Centre (CERC) to study environmental issues impacting South Gujarat, particularly Surat—India’s renowned Diamond City.
The centre was inaugurated at SGTPA Hall in Pandesara, the industrial hub of the city, in the presence of academic leaders and environmental experts. The initiative aims to promote research, innovation, and practical solutions to tackle growing environmental challenges in the region.
Focus on Research & Solutions
The newly established CERC will work on:
- Studying environmental issues affecting South Gujarat
- Conducting research on pollution and sustainability
- Developing practical solutions for industrial and urban environmental problems
- Supporting long-term environmental planning for Surat
The centre has been launched by the postgraduate section of the Environmental Engineering Department at SVNIT, which has already been actively engaged in environmental research and studies for several years.
Understanding Pollution in Diamond City
Surat’s rapid industrial growth has brought prosperity but also environmental challenges. The research centre will focus on understanding pollution patterns, studying industrial impact, and recommending measures to ensure balanced and sustainable development.
Expert Presence at the Launch
The inauguration ceremony was attended by leading academicians and experts, including a professor from IIT Delhi, who served as the chief guest. The event highlighted the importance of academic research in addressing real-world environmental problems.
